DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Holland College is seeking a highly skilled COUNSELLOR to work with a very diverse population of students at various College campuses (Summerside west). Reporting to the Director Student Wellbeing, Accessibility and Support, the Counsellor will:
- Provide individual initial assessments, personal counselling/psychotherapy for students.
- Assess and respond to emergency situations and provide crisis counselling.
- Maintain appropriate client record.
- Promote mental health awareness for students, including working with faculty/staff/Student Union to assist students.
- Participate in college activities and events such as graduations, Campus Tour Days, recruitment, and retention initiatives. Attend and participate in regular peer consultation and staff meetings.
- Ensure own ongoing professional development and research associated with counselling strategies.
- Work collaboratively with Program Managers, Learning Managers, and students to implement strategies to promote student success and advocate on their behalf.
- Be available to provide after-hours coverage as required.
- Provide direct clinical support and information to students regarding personal and academic issues.
- Identify appropriate resources and community-based services for support.
- Provide financial counselling as it relates to loans and bursaries.
- Assist students to develop approaches to cope with academic and life situations.
- Liaise with Student Academic Support staff regarding possible interventions and support for students providing referrals to outside agencies when appropriate.
- Design and deliver workshops in student development and wellness to maximize students’ learning and College experience.
- Travel to campuses outside of Summerside
*Continuing part time positions work full time regular weekly hours each academic year.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters level degree in a related field (Counselling, Social Work, and Psychology), with direct counselling experience in mental health and addictions is required.
- Experience working with diverse populations and students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated experience in personal counselling, crisis intervention, and learning disabilities.
- Knowledge and experience in creating, developing, and facilitating new initiatives.
- Demonstrated expertise in group facilitation and presentations skills.
- Ability to work independently across various campuses.
- Excellent communication, organization, and empathetic interpersonal skills.
- Well-developed written, oral, and computer skills.

Employment requirements
- Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.
- Canadian Counsellor Certification with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association is required.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must have a recent Criminal Records Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Verification (VSV) with no findings of guilt.

Salary:
$38.59 to $48.17 per hour
